About trailer licences
BE or B96 — which one do you need?
With a category B licence you may tow trailers up to 750 kg, or trailers where the combined weight of car + trailer does not exceed 3.5 tonnes. If you need to tow heavier trailers you need to extend your licence.
Extended B (B96): allows a combined weight of up to 4,250 kg (car + trailer). Practical test only.
BE licence: allows even heavier trailers (trailer up to 3,500 kg). Requires both a theory and a driving test.
